Cupcake Digital Releases New Official #TheNutJob App

NutJob_AppYou can probably tell by now that I am a little bit more than excited about the new movie – The Nut Job – coming to theaters on January 17th. The previews all look hysterical and frankly – I am ready for another great movie that wont make me cry. (love you mean it Saving Mr Banks) This week Cupcake Digital – one of my favorite app companies – released the official app for The Nut Job, and I got a chance to try it out first hand. We LOVED it.

Cupcake Digital, Inc. announces the arrival of the official app for The Nut Job movie. The app features an interactive story based on the hilarious animated family film during which Surly the squirrel goes on an adventure of a lifetime when his independent nature gets him kicked out of the park and into the big city. He then becomes an unlikely hero when he spots Maury’s Nut Shop just in time to help the park animals get ready for winter. The app allows kids to experience this high-stakes, nutty caper in an interactive format that includes four fun activities so kids can participate along with the movie characters. The app is available for an introductory price of 99 cents on the Apple App Store, Amazon Appstore for Android, Google Play and the Barnes & Noble NOOK Store.

My favorite part of the app is the game Whack A Rat.  Remember the old Whack A Mole arcade game? Yes, it is just like that.  I used to play that game for hours at the arcade.  Talk about stress relief. I have stepped away from my desk on more than one occasion in the last two days to pound some rats on my phone instead of firing off a “colorful” email or Facebook status ;)

Easy Holiday Meal Plans from Cooking Planit App

One of my favorite things about our house is the huge open floor plan – making it the best house to host our family’s holiday festivities.  There is nothing I love more than seeing my home filled with all of the people I love the most.  Being the host however also means being the cook… which we all know is not exactly my strong suit. Which is why I was excited to have the opportunity to check out the new Cooking Planit App.

cooking planitCooking Planit is a mobile app and website that provides a solution to simplify the planning, shopping and cooking process and provides home cooks with step-by-step instructions to create full meals, organizing the meal planning process, leaving every dish ready to serve at the same time. These recipes will leave the host/hostess stress free with prep, cooking and finalized meals all finished at the same time.

Cooking Planit is truly fool proof.  You can create meals, save recipes, search for meal ideas… and everything has pictures!!! Totally fool proof.  There are over 500 chef-tested recipes and meal pairings, so you won’t get bored eating the same things over and over.  And Cooking Planit syncs your account in the cloud so that you are free to use all of your devices in any combination that works for you. For example, you can plan your meals on the web at www.cookingplanit.com, use the shopping list in your iPhone app at the grocery store and then cook using your iPad version in the kitchen. It even has voice control which  allows you to move forward and backward in recipe steps without having to touch the screen while you are cooking… how cool is that?

Our Favorite Apps and eBooks for Kids 6+

best apps ebooks for kidsLots of children will be receiving tablets under the Christmas Tree this year, and if I can give a bit of advice to the parents – preload them with apps and eBooks or your morning will be spent doing just that! This year I have had the opportunity to test and review a bunch of different apps and ebooks – most all of which Midge has loved. (Some even The Teen loved…) All of them *I* loved because they were fun and educational.  Talk about a win-win.

Apps

grandmas kitchen appGrandma’s Kitchen

Midge LOVES to help me cook. I think she is her happiest in the kitchen. (I am learning to be the same way) Grandma’s Kitchen is an adorable app that lets you bake and decorate – but also has learning tools built in.  Learn math by measuring and sorting ingredients. Learn literacy spelling out recipes.

little things forever appLittle Things Forever

This app has been fun for all of us! Remember the “I Spy” books?  This is similar to that in that you search for objects inside images.  Midge and The Teen have loved this one – in fact The Teen even downloaded it to her iPhone. There is even a puzzle section where you fit the pieces together… let’s just say it is harder than I thought it would be…

dragon shapes geometry appDragon Shapes: Geometry Challenge

For a free app, this one sure packs a lot of punch… and fun!  There are 50 shape puzzles that all require some critical thinking to figure out. Plus my favorite part is they have help tutorials that explain shapes and why they are what they are, angles, and more! The Teen is taking geometry in high school… and even she enjoys playing this app with Midge.

weird but true appNational Geographic: Weird But True

I remember spending hours looking through National Geographic Books as a kid.  The pictures alone would keep me mesmerized. This app does the same thing – but with a twist.  Jam packed with crazy facts (and some that are just down right gross) this app has kept my girls laughing and “ewwwwing” for hours.  Plus there has been some fun “Jerry McGuire Moments” at the dinner table… the human head weighs eight pounds…

52 Great Cheap Dates SmartPhone App Review

52 cheap dates appMike and I are incredibly lucky – we have a scheduled date night every single week. The girls go to their Dads one night a week and since the very beginning of our relationship, we dubbed that as “Date Night.”  Now here we are nearly five years later, still having our regularly scheduled date night each week.  There are two problems that we have run in to over the last 5 years of these weekly dates however – doing “dinner and a movie” every week is not only expensive, but it has gotten monotonous and boring. So I was excited to get a chance to try out a new SmartPhone App – 52 Great Cheap Dates – from OceanHouse Media.

Looking for a great idea for an inexpensive date? 52 Great Cheap Dates is a playfully-illustrated card deck app where you’ll find an assortment of fun, creative activities that won’t challenge your budget. A little imagination, the right attitude and a delightful companion is all that’s required to enjoy this app!

The 52 Great Cheap Dates app is a lot of fun to use.  You can “spin” the cards to choose which you want to do and simply tap to open for your instructions.  They ideas are simple – but things we honestly never would have thought about.  Other things we have done – but never would have thought to make it a “date” – like I have gone on nature walks around the city, but never thought Mike would care to do anything like that.  However when I asked him to, we ended up spending two hours exploring the old nature trails on UWF – something I haven’t done in years.

52 Great Cheap Dates is available on iTunes for $.99 and includes 52 different activities, perfect for afternoon adventures, serious seductions and romantic rendezvous.  You can even email the cards to friends.  I like sending them to Mike for ideas of what to do every week.  It has really put the “fun” back in to our weekly dates.

How often do you get to go on dates with your sweetie?
