At the beginning of 2012 I made the conscious decision to get control of my body and by Eating Clean, exercising more, giving up drinking (gasp – I KNOW) and just basically making healthier choices all around to live a happier, healthier life.
It has been fantastic.
Not only do I look a million times better – but I FEEL a million times better as well.
As I hit the 6 month mark on this new lifestyle though, I feel like I need to “shake things up” a little bit and make some changes to my routine – both to keep momentum and to adjust to the new Summertime schedule – which will include many beach/river days and not as many office days. (can I get a collective WOOOHOOO for that!?!)
My favorite snack has always been vanilla yogurt – *cough*with some M&Ms thrown in *cough* – so I was excited to jump in to the #GrabASpoon till June Campaign with Dannon Oikos and Registered Dietician Keri Glassman. Each week Keri is posting awesome tips to help keep you on track on the Dannon Oikos Facebook page. You can “Like” the Dannon Oikos page to see all of her tips and check out the Dannon Oikos Yogurt website for awesome recipes swapping Oikos yogurt for the more fattening ingredients like cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream.
Keri’s philosophy of every meal being a “Monday morning” – meaning taking things one day (meal!?) at a time – is perfect for me as a busy work at home mom with two kids home full time for the summer. With as hectic as our schedule becomes, it is easy for me to really only focus on the “next meal” being as healthy as possible.
The girls also love Dannon Oikos for a quick convenient snack that I can feel great about them having. Even Mike loves the fruit flavors and we enjoy them as a “dessert” instead of something full of fat and sugar.
Keri’s ideas about “honor your craving with a conscious indulgence” really hit home with me as well. The more I have been getting into weight training I have been getting crazy cravings for sweets. As someone who never really had a “sweet tooth” to speak of, I have been shaking things up by enjoying a cup of yogurt any time I want it – instead of trying to just eat SOMETHING in an attempt to feel “full” so my craving would go away. The best part – Dannon Oikos has twice the amount of protein of regular lowfat yogurt and 0% fat (with the exception of Dannon Traditional varieties) – so my “sweet snack” is guilt free. (Oikos Greek Nonfat yogurt has 12 -14g Protein (24%DV) while regular lowfat yogurt: 5g protein (10%DV) per 5.3oz.)
GIVEAWAY
I am excited to offer one of my readers a signed copy of Keri Glassman’s new book – Slim, Calm, Sexy Diet – simply by sharing how you are “shaking things up” in your diet routine in time for Summer. Note: this is NOT about losing weight, but simply making healthier choices that all of us – at any age, shape, or size – should be making.

I start most mornings (especially during the week) with yogurt; and it usually is Oikos, although I’m fond of the black cherry flavor myself. I’m doing my best to drink more water as well; just have to get used to all those extra trips to the bathroom now (is that tmi?)
I’m adding 5-10 mins on to each workout (3-4 days a week) and cutting back on added calories wherever I can. Gotta drop the last 6 pounds, they are the toughest yet!
Since going back to Weight Watchers, I’ve started eating a good breakfast again. For me, this is shaking it up as I would normally “skip” breakfast and eat an early lunch. Bad…I know.
