A few weeks ago I mentioned that one of my Guilty Pleasures was has been watching The Girls Next Door since the show began. I was bummed when the Girls – Kendra, Holly, and Bridget – left the Mansion and “The Twins” and Crystal moved in. Maybe it was my love and loyalty to the first three, but I was never a big fan of the Twins at all and merely tolerated Crystal. “Hef” on the other hand apparently fell hard for Crystal, popping the question on Christmas Eve and then announcing it via Twitter. Romantic, huh?
For those who do not know, Holly Madison – one of the original Girls – and Hef actually dated “seriously” (if you can call it that with two other girlfriends…) for seven years, and ultimately split because of Holly’s desire to get married and begin a family and Hef’s unwillingness to oblige. In an interview in May of 2008, Hef is reported to have said “I love Holly very much and I think we’re going to be together the rest of my life, but marriage isn’t part of my puzzle. It’s not a personal thing; I just haven’t had much luck with marriages.” (I must interject here that I COMPLETELY understand this philosophy as a divorcee who is the happiest I have ever been in any relationship – unmarried – for over two years with no plans or desire to wed any time soon. Anyway…) Fast forward 19 months later – and he is popping the question to a woman he has been involved with just over a year. Though I have not read an “official” response from Holly, I have no doubt she is more than a little miffed. (and understandably so)
Now, I have read literally hundreds of people who have called Crystal a “gold digger” and “grave robber” and everything else, but I have to stand up for her on this one. Though I am still deeply loyal to the original three Girls, I am happy for both Crystal and Hef for their upcoming nuptials. I think Hef may be realizing that he will not live forever, and looking for someone to spend his final days (and millions… $40 million to be exact) with is not a bad thing. Plus, Crystal had to know the reason Holly left (I mean, the whole World did) and she chose to love him anyway without any expectation. It seems the people calling her names are doing so out of jealousy, not out of reality. (Sad that people can’t be supportive of each other instead of always being so catty.)
Congratulations to the happy couple! And Holly, I have no doubt you have bigger and better things to come in your life! Keep rockin Vagas honey! This is just a blip on your radar.
