As you all know, I believe in celebrating even the smallest of victories. Today is no exception. You may remember my post about how “running” has seemed to be a theme in my life… before in a bad way – running away when things got tough, running from one bad idea (relationship!) to the next… you get the idea. Well, now I am happy to say I am still fulfilling my need to run – but this time TOWARDS something… a 5k race!
I have been bummed with the weather this week – cold and rainy for literally the last 5 days straight. So when I woke up this morning to the sun shining right in my face, my first thought was “I GET TO RUN!!”
Mike went with me, which was sweet since his knees are WAY worse than mine, but he wanted to support me. He even ran with me! Maybe I can talk him into training with me after all. I whined a little bit, my shin splints were not *quite* as bad, but by all means still there. It was good to have him there to push me. I honestly think I completed it because he was there with me. I ran faster and farther this time too, which was exciting.
So today I completed 1.58 miles or 2.54 kilometers in 20 minutes- not bad, considering it is a half run/half walk workout.
I am celebrating my victory with a green apple, peanut butter, and a big glass of water! Why mess up what I just did with something fattening?! This is about a lifestyle change… and this little victory has helped me realize this.
Now when I say “I was born to run” I can feel good about it!
