When I was a little girl I never really played with dolls. Barbie’s and Cabbage Patch and stuff – just not my thing. However what I did have about a million of were toy ponies, and I could spend hours playing with them, brushing and braiding their hair, and “teaching” them to do “tricks.” Much to my delight, my girls ended up being the same way – opting for toy ponies over dolls. So when I had the opportunity to check out Star Stable – an online horse game for kids that can be played on your PC or Mac – I was totally excited to let the girls play!
In Star Stable kids get to create their own avatar that gets to explore the island of Jorvik on their very own horse! They can safely interact with thousands of other online players to participate in races, taking care of their horses, and more! Midge jumped right into the game and became completely engrossed in learning all of the different things that the game can do. With more than 17 levels, Star Stable offers a safe online experience for players that love horses, mysteries, adventure and making new friends all over the world.
The first thing was to create your own avatar. You can change her hair color, eye color, hair style and more! Even cooler – you can choose from a wide variety of pre-programmed names, keeping your children’s online identity safe and secure.
Next you get to choose your horse who will be yours throughout the game. You can choose their hair and mane color, and give them a unique name from their list as well. I think Midge had more trouble choosing what the horse was going to look like than her own avatar – they were all so pretty!
Once you have created your avatar and your horse’s, it is time to play the game. Using simple commands you can explore the island, talk with others, play games, and more. I was blown away watching her play – there is SO much this game can do. You can explore different stables, new villages, or stay close to the harbors. You can participate in daily races, and increase your reputation to access better clothing and gear, as well as advance your storyline. It even helps to teach children financial responsibility by giving them 100 coins each week that can be saved and used to purchase additional equipment and accessories – or even a new horse!
Midge has been playing for about a week now, and every day she seems to discover something new. In fact, Star Stable makes sure of that by adding new plots and twists to the game every week – giving kids new things to explore virtually every time they log on. Now that school has started, she comes home and goes right to her homework so she can “earn” time to play Star Stable. I call that a win.
Star Stable is a great game that lets kids play and learn in a safe online environment. Star Stable uses Crisp Thinking to automatically moderate and monitor all chat, and to ensure a safe and fun environment while playing Star Stable. Crisp Thinking chat moderation and profiling community platform prevents the online exchange of personal information, and actively filters out “bad” words and trigger phrases. Star Stable also works in accordance to COPPA – Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998.
Whether you are enjoying the breeze off the harbor of Jarlaheim or exploring the Valley of the Hidden Dinosaur, Star Stable will keep your children entertained and learning critical thinking and social skills right from the safety of your home computer. Check out StarStable.com to get started!
