Chris Brown New Tattoo – Too Far??!

I love tattoos – especially on men.  And I think getting tattoos to signify major events in your life is a way better way of choosing what tattoo to get – moreso than just “I think its cool right now”….but Rapper Chris Brown may have taken this a little bit too far.

Sacs of Life Hands Free Diaper Bag #Giveaway

One of the awesome swag sponsors for Brandcation last month was Sacs of Life – a company based out of Michigan that creates unique bags that are as functional as they are chic.

Sacs of Life was founded by Annette Ferber Adelman in late 2009 when she saw a void in the market for fashionable and functional shopping and travel bags, that were innovative (and expandable!) in design.

At Brandcation I received a Metro Baby Bag – the Ultimate Hands Free Diaper Bag I love the stylish look of this across the body bag, and considered keeping it for myself even though I sure dont need a diaper bag.

The Metro Baby Bag is hands free organization for all of your shopping and baby needs.  Plus it has the bonus city bag which can hold 2-3 shopping bags so you arent trying to juggle everything all in your hands.  It has several different sipper pockets to hold everything from your wallet to your keys, your ID – keeping everything easily accessible with just one hand.

The Metro Baby Bag also includes a changing pad with cushioned pillow, a pocket for diapers and wipes, and even a place for babies hygiene items and pacifiers.

I wish I had one of these bags years ago when my girls were smaller.  I can see how this would be SO much easier than carrying around that small suitcase I called a diaper bag all those years ago.  This is not only much more convenient, but a lot more chic as well.

I am excited to offer one of my awesome readers their very own Metro Baby Earth Bag from Sacs of Life.  You can check out all of the bags from Sacs of Life and order from their website – www.SacsOfLife.com

MOGO Charm Bracelets

A few weeks ago I received a product that my girls have just totally fallen in love with.    MOGO Charms are a new twist on charm jewelry that let girls express their likes and loves – and change them up as often as they want to!

MOGO® is a trendsetting accessory line that combines magnetic charms with linkable charmbands and fashionable flip flops. MOGO Charmbands link together to make wristbands, anklebands, headbands, belts, chokers and more. With over 400 different designs, there is a MOGO Charm to match every mood. (taken from www.mogocharm.com)

I remember when my grandmother gave me my first charm bracelet.  It was a tiny gold bracelet that had dangling charms of some of my favorite things.   I absolutely loved that bracelet – it was my most prized possession.  I wore it everywhere -including school- and one day while out for recess one of my little dangling charms got hung up on the soccer net – and broke – sending my favorite little charm flying.   I was absolutely crushed and spent the rest of recess frantically searching in the grass for it – even refusing to go back into class until I found it.  I was practically inconsolable.   We never did find my little charm.

When I saw the MOGO Charm Bracelets I immediately thought of that day.  With MOGO, instead of danging charms like I had, the charms are actually magnets which pop directly onto the durable fabric bracelet making it not only much more safe and secure than mine, but also nearly takes away the chance of the charms getting “hung up” in anything.

The bracelets are easily adjustable which is great since my daughters are seven years apart and obviously have different sized wrists.  Usually Taylor gets left out since her little arms are so tiny, but we were able to size it down to her little 5year old wrist just perfectly.

There are more than 75 different themed sets of the MOGO Charms from birthstones to letters to hobbies and sports.  They also have a fun Design Studio that will let your kinds play around and design their own bracelets with their available charms.  I had fun just playing around with this -

These are priced perfectly with the bracelets retailing for $14 and the charms starting at $4.  MOGO Jewelry can be purchased directly from their website or from hundreds of retailers nationwide.  To see if there is a store near you check out their Store Locator.

Tokidoki The New Tattooed Barbie

When I saw this on Facebook today, I was shocked.  In a good way.  Tokidoki, Mattel’s newest addition to the iconic Barbie Collection, is pretty edgy – sporting pink hair and silver stilettos.  Her “pet” is even a cactus covered pooch named Bastardino.  But what really has people screaming is the fact that Tokidoki is covered in tattoos.

“I don’t think it’s appropriate for little girls to be having Barbies with tattoos all over,” parent Reye Griffith said Thursday. (source)

Tokidoki’s upper body is covered in exotic looking tattoos, including large flowers and a crown on her chest and a tiger on her neck.  She also appears to have a Japanese woman on her arm.   Though the tattoos are tasteful (hey, we have all seen worse)  it still has many parents in an uproar.

“I think it sends all the wrong signals for young girls,” said Mitti Hansen, mother to a 4-year-old girl. (source)

Personally I am not opposed to this, as I have a few tattoos myself.  In fact the American Academy of Dermatology reports that 1 in 4 adults ages 18 to 50 have at least one.   And I love my tattoos and hate that society still gawks at them as taboo.   As a mother of two daughters, I would not mind if once my daughters are of legal age (as in 18) chose to get a tattoo.   Mine tell the story of my life, in the art form that I chose to express it.

Tokidoki is considered a collectible and will not be found in stores.  She retails for $50 – much more than most Barbies – and is a Limited Edition, and is being marketed more to the adult collectors than to children.  I just looked – she is already SOLD OUT!

I have never… ever owned a Barbie and I would LOVE to get my hands on one of these.  I think she is beautiful, and I am proud of Mattel for being willing to push the envelope a bit, and show that tattoos do not have to be taboo, and can in fact be beautiful.   Maybe someday Mattel will make a Barbie a bit more anatomically correct… but until then, Tokidoki will be my favorite.

What do you think?  Has Mattel gone too far?

Thank You David’s Bridal – Maid of Honor Dress

Before heading out to Destin, Mary and I had one mission in life – to find my Maid of Honor dress for her upcoming wedding.  We had looked online, and I even visited a few places close to home, but we just couldn’t find the right one.

Now, something I realized this week – having never been the “Maid of Honor” before, was that the COLOR of the Maid of Honor dress is MAJOR important.  When you think about it, the Bridesmaids are really the “focal color” of the whole event – since the Bride is in white and the groom in black or brown. When I got married, I picked the color first, and then left it up to my poor best friend to find a matching dress.

Side note: Since becoming a Maid of Honor, I have called MY Maid of Honor at LEAST three times to tell her thank you for all that I put her through while planning my wedding ….when you are the Bride… ya just don’t “get it.”

Mary, thankfully, knew better and we shopped together at David’s Bridal and found not only the perfect dress, but the matching sash for her to wear, and about a million things to coordinate with the color.  It had never crossed my mind that MY dress was THAT important – and the reason we needed to decide on it NOW so she would have the color – literally for everything else.   Talk about an “ah-ha” moment.

In case you have been under a rock for the last 60 years, David’s Bridal is the premier wedding retailer for all things Wedding Dress related – from the Bride, to the Flower Girl to the Mothers of the Bride and Groom.  They even offer all of the shoes, accessories, hair pieces – even invitations and reception pieces to match your theme or color.

My favorite part is that at David’s Bridal you are able to purchase your dress straight off the rack – which is a great perk when the wedding is less than 2 months away.   They have something like 40-something different styles that can come in any of the 30-something different colors (I should have taken a picture of the chart… its impressive) and in case they don’t have the perfect one, you can order it and they can get it in pretty quick.

I was lucky and found the absolute PERFECT dress literally in minutes.  It was the second one I tried on, and as soon as I walked out, Mary’s eyes just lit up.  Even her Mother-In-Law-To-Be loved it!   It was the perfect fit with the exception of length, but I set an alteration date for one month before the wedding - just in case – since right now I am losing weight at a rate of about 12 pounds per month!! (woohoo for that!)

So here it is – the “perfect” dress and the color for this beautiful beach wedding – I can not WAIT!  I think I am *almost* as excited as the Bride!
