This year the Teen began a new middle school. She turned 13 this Summer and begged to get to wear makeup (“like, EVERY DAY”) to her new school. Since I have been telling her since she was about 4 that she couldn’t wear makeup “until she was 13″ I didn’t have much choice in the matter.

Back when I was traveling to Texas for work I discovered the e.l.f. makeup remover cleansing cloths. They were perfect for the nights in the hotel when I was so tired I could barely stand to take my makeup off. Between their price, effectiveness, and how gentle they were to my skin, I knew e.l.f. everyday cosmetics was going to be the perfect way to introduce my Teen into the world of cosmetics.

We headed to Walmart where I basically went through every make up product there is – from foundation to powder to eyeliner and mascara – even brushes and lash curlers. We also talked about the importance of keeping your face cleaned, toned, and moisturized – especially after wearing makeup all day long – and how to also keep your makeup and brushes clean by keeping them in something like a Caboodles. You can see my Google+ Album with the whole trip here.

The very next day the Teen woke up early and began her new routine. Because she has unbelievably thick and beautiful hair she did her skin care routine after getting out of the shower and blow dryed her hair while her moisturizer soaked in. I tried not to be a “helicopter mom” and give her some space while she put her makeup on, but I must have walked by the bathroom a hundred times until she finally just said “Mom, just come in and help me.”

It was fun to spend some time laughing and teaching – and even a little bit of experimenting – with my Teen in the morning and I honestly believe we both had a better day because of it. Instead of arguing for her to get her chores done we laughed and joked and just had fun – it was a much better way to start our day. I realized what a beautiful young lady she is becoming and she absolutely lit up the room when she smiled after her “e.l.f. makeover.” Even Midge got in on the action and wore a bit of bronzer to school as well.
She has continued her daily e.l.f. routine and though she doesn’t ask for my help much anymore, I can tell she is feeling more and more confident each day. I was worried about her going to a new school and being “the new kid,” but now just 2 weeks in to the 2012-2013 school year I know she is going to be just fine.

Awww…definitely one of the “cool moms” =D
My 18 year old and I are e.l.f. fanatics. She actually has her own makeup tutorial channel on youtube. TheMagneticBeauty I love how cheap their products are and they are quality! Many makeup gurus on youtube use e.l.f.
My mom didn’t wear much makeup so I had no one to teach me when it came to makeup. It was mostly trial and error until I hit up on makeup counter at a department store who did a complete face makeover and taught me how to apply different products.
Aww, I remember my mom helping me with my makeup!
