This year I will again be hosting the family for Thanksgiving dinner here at our house. I love having a home large enough to comfortably fit our whole brood in one room! Thankfully my Mother-In-Law takes care of cooking the bird, as know my culinary skills only extend so far. And everyone pitches in with desserts and drinks and breads.
My job: the sides.
Last year it included the usual green bean casserole, MamaLo’s home made macaroni and cheese, potato salad, etc. I am not sure how many calories per tablespoon are in any of those, but I am pretty certain I would need a calculator to figure it out.
This year though I am changing up tradition a bit, and serving a very “Clean” meal. I have already told everyone of my plans… and thankfully they are still planning to join. Last year I remember feeling so overfull and gross after dinner… I just do not want to feel that way ever again.
This year we will forgo the mac & cheese all together, have fresh steamed green beans instead of green bean casserole, and include sauteed yellow squash with onions, zucchini, steamed sugar snap peas, and steamed carrots.
Personally, I am very excited about the change, and I hope that once I show the rest of the family how tasty whole food is, I will get more of them on this “Eat Clean” bandwagon with me….
What is on your menu? Am I crazy to extend the “eating clean” even on Thanksgiving!?
