Last weekend I attended Brandcation, a four day Bloggers Retreat from Brandfluential. The theme of the event was “Adventure”… that alone had me on edge. I have to admit, as much as I love a good time, “Adventurous” is probably not ever a word I would use to describe myself.
Friday I woke up even before my alarm went off – I still think it was out of fear. I quickly showered and got all “Diva’d up” since I knew I was on a retreat with a group that rivals the paparazzi. I even squeezed in a 6:30am run to McDonald’s to get breakfast for my housemates and a much needed coffee for me.
We arrived at the Florida EcoSafaris before 9am – just as the dozens of “critters” were starting their morning. I have to admit, I never saw a COW as necessarily cute… but these little guys had a certain charm.
Before heading out to the Ziplining Course we were told a bit of the history of the EcoSafaris. As a Florida Native, I was not only impressed, but proud of the work this organization is doing to conserve the vegetation and wildlife. The story of the EcoSafaris and the Allen Broussard Conservancy is a sad but uplifting story that gave a very personal aspect to the whole place.
To get to the Ziplining Course we took a big open bus of sorts… the seats were wheel chairs that I have to say were pretty comfortable… of course my fear of what was to come had me thinking that the wheelchairs were more of a foreshadowing of me breaking my legs… but I tried to keep a smile on my face.
When we arrived to the course, Stephanie helped us get all geared up and ready to go. I hung in the back while we all walked to the first climb – completely unaware that it is actually the last person who climbs to the landing who is the FIRST to go out on the Zipline. Yep, you guessed it – terrified little me got to be the first of the 12 to go out on the zipline. And well…. why don’t you just watch it for yourself:
By the end of the Ziplining Course I was racing the Guide that you see helping us all, and even let go with BOTH hands to literally feel like I was flying. I honestly wanted to start all over, and just keep Ziplining for the rest of the day! It was AWESOME. I can not think of another time I felt more free, exhilarated, and accomplished! I faced my fears (heights, falling, ALLIGATORS!!), and I ziplined anyway!! And I can not WAIT to go back!!
Thank you so much to EcoSafaris for having us all there, and to Matt and Jeff, our awesomely amazing Guides who kept us laughing the whole two hours we were swinging around the trees.
Maybe I am an “Adventurer” after all.
