Chances are you have heard of the "SMART" Goal Setting Theory which helps you to set goals that are "specific... measurable... attainable" and all that garbage. I am not a fan of this theory - I think that is absolutely BORING. Goal Setting - as well as Goal GETTING - should be fun and exciting and get you fired up about the possibility of reaching your goal - even if it is HUGE. I am sorry, but I just can't see anyone getting fired up over something they deem "realistic"... where is the excitement in that? Instead, I like to set BOLD Goals - goals that stretch me and excite me and make people actually laugh when I tell them.
My very first BOLD Goal was to double PartyPlanDivas in one year. At the time, I was several years into the business, and I wanted to double the membership - and the income - in one year... I completed my goal by April. The next year I set the goal to do twelve 5ks in twelve months. I barely made it - finishing off #11 and #12... on the same day. (That was not pretty.) Last year my BOLD Goal was to do a Triathlon, which I completed back in July. However, it was the very next weekend that I tore the fascia in my foot, and my doctor telling me that my running days were pretty much over... he clearly underestimated my stubbornness.
When I completed the BattleShip 12k last month it reminded me of my love for running - and though I *have* been resting my foot the way my doc suggested... this girl is ready to pound the pavement again. So since I did 12in12 a few years ago, and my friend Angie just completed her 15in15... I decided why stop there?! Let's go for 16in16!! And there it was. The BOLD Goal for 2016... 16 races in 2016 - except that unlike my 12in12 where they were all 5ks, we are pushing the limits this year with 10ks, 12ks, and triathlons - yep that's plural - with a few 5ks sprinkled in. Hey - go big or go home, right?
I'll be kicking off the #16in16 with the 2016 Resolution Virtual 5k from GoneForARun.com. Five of my SweatSisterz will be joining in for an evening romp around the neighborhood to earn our first medals of the year. You can do it too - just register and then run 3.1 miles between December 31st and January 5th! Then upload a screen shot of your MapMyRun results to their Facebook page! Easy Peasy!
I am starting with a 5k to make sure my foot is going to be able to handle 16 events this year - but I am confident it will. Sixteen races in twelve calendar months is going to be a push - especially with already having four big trips booked - but I am looking forward to every single one of them. Who knows - maybe I can even do some of my runs while on those trips... Regardless I am looking forward to doing some of my past favorites - McGuire's, Bayou Hills, and Jingle Bell - while adding new ones like I Pink I Can Run! It's a good thing Santa let it slip that he is bringing me a medal holder...
If you want to join in on my crazy BOLD Goal for 2016, I created this #16in16 printable for my ARC planner to keep it right in the forefront of my mind. I can not wait to see it all filled out at the end of the year! I may have to frame it! You can click here to download your own!
