Tony Awards Inspired #Moscato Cocktail from Barefoot Wines

Tonight on CBS you can watch the 2014 Tony Awards. My cousin and I are already piled up on the couch watching the Red Carpet! If you are watching the awards tonight or looking for a great cocktail to serve up at your next award winning party, I recommend the Broadway Bramble aka The "Toe-ny" - a delicious Moscato Cocktail from Barefoot Wines.

Recipe:

0.5 cups frozen berries

2 oz Cran Cherry juice

1 Tablespoon sugar

0.5 cups Barefoot Bubbly Red Moscato

Directions:

1. Combine all the ingredients in a blender with ½ cup of ice.

2. Blend on HIGH for 10 seconds then pour into a tall glass.

National Chocolate Chip Day Cocktails from Pinnacle Vodka

So tomorrow is National Chocolate Chip Day. Now, there are some really silly "National" holidays - but this one I can get on board with. Especially when we are talking about mixing up chocolate chip flavored cocktails. (Those have less calories... right?!) If you have never tried Pinnacle Vodka - this is a great excuse to do just that. Here are some awesome recipes for some awesome National Chocolate Chip Day inspired cocktails using their signature Pinnacle Cookie Dough flavored vodka!

#1 - Chocolate Chunk

1 part Pinnacle® Cookie Dough Vodka
1 part JDK & Sons™ Crave Chocolate Mint Liqueur
Shake with ice and strain into a shot glass.

#2 - Choc-o-tini

1 part Pinnacle® Cookie Dough Vodka
Shake with ice and strain into a martini glass rimmed with cocoa powder.

#3 - Mocha Chip Delight

2 parts Pinnacle® Cookie Dough Vodka
1 part Kamora® Coffee Liqueur
1 part Chocolate Milk
Rim martini glass with shaved chocolate. Shake with ice, strain into prepared martini glass, and top with whipped cream.

#4 - Coca-Cookies

2 parts Pinnacle® Cookie Dough Vodka
4 parts Cola
Mix in a glass with ice and garnish with a cherry.

Snow Storm Cocktail Recipes from Ketel One

By now everyone is starting to lose all sense of humor about Winter. This morning tens of thousands of people woke up to inches of snow, widespread power outages, and ice covered roads. Even those of us here in Florida are sick of the cold - some kids having to go to school today to make up for the insanity that was our ice storm just two weeks ago. We get it Mother Nature. Enough is enough.

Ketel One Vodka has come up with a few tasty cocktails to help ease the frustration of "Midnight Snowstorms" and the abundance of "Snowflakes" and hopefully bring will in some warmer weather... for a "Melted Snowman." Enjoy!

Snowflake

2 oz Ketel One® Citroen
2 oz Godiva® White Chocolate Liqueur

Shake with ice in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with cocoa powder.

Midnight Snowstorm
1 oz. Ketel One® Citroen
¼ oz. crème de violette liqueur
¼ oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 bar spoons berry jam
Champagne

Add Ketel One Citroen, crème de violette, lemon juice and jam into a cocktail shaker. Vigorously shake with ice. Strain into a flute glass. Top with champagne. Garnish with berries floating on top.

The Melted Snowman

1 oz Ketel One® Vodka
¼ oz peppermint schnapps
3 coffee beans
carrot sliver

Place three coffee beans and carrot sliver in the bottom of a chilled martini glass. Shake other ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker and strain into martini glass.

How To Make A Wine Cork Wreath

What else would MoscatoMom have on her front door this holiday season than a Wine Cork Wreath!? This simple and fun DIY Wine Cork Wreath will show your vino love to everyone who passes by!

One of the tasks on my Life List has been to make a homemade holiday wreath to hang on our front door. Growing up I didn't really have a front door - we lived in a condo on the beach so we entered through the garage - so I have never had one before.

I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted, but when the idea came to me - there was no question this is the one we need to have.

Making the Wine Cork Holiday Wreath was actually quite simple - and I enjoyed it enough that I will be making some for friends. All you need is a wreath form, a hot glue gun, a big bow.... and a whole bunch of wine corks.

I actually purchased a box of wine corks from a lady on Etsy - Bless all those people who drank that wine - and picked up the other supplies at Hobby Lobby.

I also had my own stash of wine corks from some of my favorite memories - the first bottle of wine Mike and I shared, a bottle I received after a huge event, a few Girls Night In corks, etc as well as just corks from some of my favorite Moscato Brands.

All in all I think the entire Wine Cork costs me less than $10. You can not beat that!

I chose a wreath form that had a flat back so it would lay flat against the door - and I would only have to cover the front of the wreath with corks.

Start by covering your surface with newspaper to protect it from rogue hot glue. Then - beginning on the inside, glue wine corks end-to-end making sure to use plenty of glue.

You can trim one if needed, but make sure to cover the entire inside. Then begin another row and continue the process - gluing the corks as closely and tightly as possible.

For this part you want to use the not special corks as these will not be as well seen.

The good news is you can turn off your OCD on this part - perfection is not your goal here. In fact it will look better the more "imperfect" it is.

Once the entire wreath form is covered with rows of corks, begin randomly placing your favorite corks at different angles around the wreath.

Make sure to leave room at the bottom for the bow - you do not want to cover your favorite corks!

I will admit that during this part I not only got discouraged - because it wasn't looking right - but my OCD kicked in too, and I was trying to get all symmetrical with it... neither of those things need to happen here.

You must take my word on it that if you keep placing, keep gluing, there will be this moment that suddenly it starts to look "right" after a while of looking "weird."

Once you are happy with your Wine Cork Wreath, affix the bow and voila! A beautiful creation that you will love and that is easy and inexpensive enough to be a great holiday gift as well!

Moscato Wines I love- Part Deux

A few months ago I did a post on what I think are the best Moscato wines - and to date is has been the highest viewed post of mine so far. And as much as I think that list is still totally relevant, I have had the opportunity to check out a few more brands and now have a few more "favorites" to share with you! Though my #1 favorite is still the same - Bartenura Moscato di Asti - a few others are now making the list of what *I* think are the Best Moscato Wine Brands:

1. Bartenura Moscato

Since the very first sip I took of Bartenura Moscato back in 2008 at Skopelo’s Restaurant I have loved this wine. It is a very light, sweet wine with only 5% alcohol – low for many wines. It is a bit effervescent giving it almost a champagne-like feel… perfect for any little celebration.

Bartenura Moscato pairs best with fruits, desserts, and cheeses – but to be honest, I drink it with just about anything.

When I first discovered this wine I could only find it at Four Winds – a local specialty food and wine store, but I am happy to say that Publix carries it now as well!

2. Cupcake Moscato

This one was highly recommended on my other post, so I was excited when I found it while in Tennessee for Brandcation. We picked up a couple bottles and all were big fans. Cupcake Moscato is also a Moscato di Asti, meaning its comes from the city of Asti, a key wine town in Northwestern Italy.

3. Fish Eye Moscato

I discovered Fish Eye Moscato this year at Mardi Gras when I was searching for a bottle of Moscato that I could take to the parades - meaning not in a glass bottle. Sure, they also have bottles, but I was delighted to find a "Cardboardeaux" - wine in a box!

The Fish Eye Moscato "Cardboardeaux" holds the equivalent of four bottles of wine - perfect for glass-free events like Mardi Gras parades - but I also took a box to the beach during Brandcation and enjoyed sharing with everyone while enjoying the beach... although I wish I had taken two.

How To Choose The Perfect Wine

I like what I like, and I believe that Moscato goes with absolutely everything. ~~Sometimes even breakfast.~~ But as much as I love my Moscato I have to admit that different wines compliment different meals and occasions, and that *gasp* not everyone shares in my adoration for one single wine.

Top Five Moscato Wine Brands - My List

Looking for the best Moscato wine brand for your special occasion? Here are my top ~~five~~ eight Best Moscato Wines that will not break the bank!

Last week I received a frantic text from a guy friend of mine asking for the best moscato wine brands. He was heading to a dinner date at his new girlfriend's house and wanted to take a good bottle of Moscato that would go with just about anything she was cooking.

Though I am nothing near a wine connoisseur, I do know and love Moscato. ~~And I have tried a whole lot of them~~. It might have been the easiest question I have ever been asked.

UPDATED: I have had to expand my list of the best moscato wines based on the recommendations of my amazing readers and bottles I have discovered on my own!

There are two main things to note when choosing the best sweet wine for your occasion:

How sweet do you want the wine to be?
How bubbly do you want the wine to be?

Typically Moscato is pretty sweet, though some are much sweeter than others. Additionally Moscato can be somewhat flat all the way to a spumante which will be much more bubbly like a champagne.

Maybe one of the best things about this Moscato besides its flavor is its availability. Castello del Poggio can be found at many grocery stores, liquor stores, and even in select Sam's Clubs. Bonus too - it has a screw-off top, so no need for a corkscrew.

Average Retails: $10-$12

Gemma de Luna Moscato

A new addition to the best Moscato wines list, Gemma de Luna has become one of my favorites. I actually grabbed this one just because I loved the bottle but I was pleasantly surprised at just how good the wine is.

Gemma de Luna Moscato is a full spumante - or fully sparkling - making it great for even the most special occasions. Made with specialty grapes from Peimonte with hints of rose and peach give it the perfect flavor for most any dish pairing.

Gemma de Luna has a 7.5% alcohol by volume and even comes in cute little single-serve bottles so you can take it on the go! How cute is that?!

Average retail: $12-14

Flip Flop Moscato

Last year I was delighted to try Flip Flop Moscato for the first time. Besides just having great packaging - it has a screw top and not a cork, which is fantastic for toting to the beach - it was a light, refreshing wine that I really enjoyed.

Flip Flop Moscato is great with fish and chicken dishes or for sipping on the beach or poolside. It isnt overly sweet but has a crisp flavor and a sweetness that lingers on your tongue.

Another great thing about Flip Flop wine is the Soles4Souls Program - where a portion of the proceeds from each bottle of wine sold goes to helping provide footwear to those in need. A great wine and giving to charity - its a win-win.

Barefoot Moscato

If you are looking for the best cheap moscato, Barefoot may fit the bill.

Barefoot Wines have won thousands of awards, and just one sip will show you why. The flavors are always unique and bursting with flavor.

The Barefoot Moscato has much more of a citrus-y taste to me than the other wines on this list. You can also taste the hints of peach and apricot, without it being too overly sweet.

Barefoot Wines was founded by a woman who was supposed to become a doctor, but couldn't resist the "call of the vines." The company has grown from having just four varietals to now 12 still and 5 sparkling wines. Barefoot is now the most awarded wine brand in California under $15.

Average Retail: $9-$12

Middle Sister Moscato

I stumbled across this wine by accident - checking out of a Super Target in Mobile Alabama. The label was so cute I just had to check it out.

Middle Sister wines give every wine its own unique personality. Though I am an only child and a mother of only two daughters, I can certainly assign a personality to every woman I know with the Middle Sister varieties. You can determine "which sister you are" from your taste preferences. Mine, being Moscato made me the "Sweet & Sassy" sister. Here is what my label has to say:

"After a long hard day of being fabulous, I like to relax with a glass of wine. But I don't want it to bite me back. Isn't there enough drama in this world? That's why this wine is my new best wine friend. With a touch of natural sweetness, it's smooth and refreshing and so easy to love. Moscato, always stays as sweet as you are. I'll handle the sassy."

Made with 100% California grapes, the Middle Sister Moscato has a bit higher of an alcohol content - 11% - than the other wines on this list... but then I bet any "middle sister" would probably agree that is a necessary evil.

Average Retail: $9-$12

Fish Eye Moscato

Fish Eye Moscato is a delightfully different Moscato from South Eastern Australia. Fish Eye Moscato is more flat - less bubbly - than the ones I have mentioned in this list.

I discovered this sweet moscato when I was heading to a Mardi Gras parade and needed something portable that was not glass!

This "Cardbordeaux" style box wine even has its own tap! Each 3.0L box contains the equivalent of four 750ml bottles or two 1.5L bottles of FishEye Wine.

Cupcake Moscato

Cupcake Moscato di Asti is a nice light and fizzy moscato that goes great with sweet desserts - especially on a warm day!

With hints of flavors of nectarine, honey and peach, Cupcake Moscato is always a crowd favorite. Another bonus to Cupcake Moscato is that it is easy to find in most local grocers and liquor stores.

I am sure there are many many fantastic Moscato wines out there, and I hope someday to try them all.

Moscato is a wine that I have found most everyone likes - even friends who have said "oh I am not a wine drinker" have enjoyed a glass of one of these from this list.
