It seemed like winter was going to hold on forever this year, but I think we have finally turned the corner into summer. Nothing says summertime like a cookout with good friends, good food, and lots of laughs. Fresh From Florida makes it easy to have all three.
Right now so many delicious fruits and vegetables are in season in Florida - it is hard to pick which ones you want to serve! It is one of the perks of living in Florida - we can serve fresh food all year long just by looking for the Fresh From Florida logo when we shop!

Last week I gathered some girlfriends to enjoy some time together before the academic summer officially began. In true Florida fashion a rainstorm showed up out of nowhere and my cookout became a cook-in... but we still had a blast.
I decided on two of my favorites for my Fresh From Florida Party Cookout - sweet corn and watermelon to serve with BBQ pork sliders. I mean... does it get any more summertime than that?!
I could not get over how fresh the Florida Sweet Corn was! I simply shucked off the husks and tossed them into my food steamer. Fifteen minutes later we were enjoying delicious fresh corn. It didn't even need butter!
During the spring, 75% of all Sunshine Sweet Corn is bi-color! I picked up 10 fresh ears for the party - and two of them were white! How cool is that!? Even better - every single kernel was fresh and plump and full of flavor.
Even this early in the season the Florida Watermelon was sweet and juicy. We all had some good laughs over debating if you need to salt watermelon... I am very much pro-salt... but a few of my guests were anti-salt.
Either way, this bright red watermelon was absolute perfection. I had purchased cupcakes for this party - but the watermelon turned out to be the perfect dessert. No one even touched the cupcakes!
Despite the rain, we all had a great time at our indoor picnic. This may have been one of the easiest parties I have ever thrown.
I tossed a roast in the slow cooker, the Florida Sweet Corn in the food steamer, and then cut up the Florida Watermelon... served along with a bucket of iced down sodas and - voila!
