For as long as I can remember, I have always had pets. From dogs to cats to birds to ferrets to hamsters to sugar gliders (yes, I'm serious) and even a really cool iguana. In 2006 I got my sweet chihuahua Indi who has been with me through some of the hardest times in my life, and always been right there by my side. Two and a half years ago, I took on being "mom" to three abandoned kittens who have brought even more joy and laughter in to our home than I could ever have imagined. If you look at my Facebook or Instagram accounts, you will see they are both littered with pictures of my sweet furbabies - almost as many as my furless children.
Truth is, I could not imagine a house without a handful of pets. They really do bring so much love and laughter in to our house. When I saw that Chicken Soup for the Soul has two new books - The Cat Did What? and The Dog Did What? - I knew they would be perfect for our collection. I can not count how many times I have muttered exactly those words about my own furbabies, so I was delighted to read stories from other pet owners as well. Each book has 101 amazing stories - some that will make you laugh, and some that will make you cry.
The Foreword for both books is written by none other than the amazing Miranda Lambert who is a huge advocate for animal rescues. In fact if you look for pictures of Miranda, most of them you will see her holding a rescue dog or cat - if not several. In the foreword Miranda talks about her love of animals and shares memories of her childhood with pets - which sounded a whole lot like my own. It was neat to hear in her own words such a personal side of her, and was certainly the perfect way to kick off such heart waring books.
If you are a pet lover - or if you have one on your holiday shopping list this year - I highly recommend these books. They are such an easy read and just leave you feeling good inside. PLUS - royalties from every book sold support the American Humane Association!! You can order online or pick up from your local book store.
