Four years ago I received a frantic call from my friend Trisha. A stray cat that we had seen in the neighborhood a few times had been hit by a car and they had found her three tiny little kittens in a neighbor’s shed. The very last thing I needed to add to my household was three cats, but the shelter did not have anyone who would take them in because they were too small to be left alone overnight. I drove over, picked them up, grabbed some bottles and powdered kitten milk from the pet store, and set my alarm to feed them every three hours around the clock.
Mike was not thrilled about this new addition to our lives, so I kept the kittens in my office where he would not be bothered by them. Growing up he had not been around cats so he just decided he did not like them, so there was “no way” that we were keeping them. That was fine with me, so I found homes for them and continued raising them – going from bottle feedings every 3 hours to wet food every 4 hours to eventually dry food and litter box training. Every milestone got me one step closer to them going to live in their forever homes… or so I thought.
The week before these three were supposed to head off to their new homes I had a work trip that would take me out of town for three days. The kitties were fine to be left alone by then – I asked Mike to only check on them a few times while I was gone. Apparently sometime during my trip, Mike heard one of the babies “crying” and by the time I returned from my trip all three kitties had the run of the house – including sleeping in the bed with Mike. Needless to say, they were not going anywhere.
Keeping all three kitties was never the intention, but we had all fallen in love over the course of the few weeks we were taking care of them. What started out as tiny little furballs that weighed less than two pounds each have become ginormous cats weighing in at nearly twenty pounds a piece. And while I love each one of them and their very different personalities – there is one thing I do not love, and it is something that has been a problem for years now. The problem is that their litter box is still in my office… literally right next to my desk. When they were little this was not a problem, but as they have grown this has become more and more of an issue. So when I had the opportunity to teach up with Collective Bias and Target to try out the Litter Genie® Cat Litter Disposal System, I was excited to see if I could get some relief from my very stinky predicament.
The Litter Genie® Cat Litter Disposal System is designed to help lock away stinky litter box odors. For four years now every time one of my furbabies has used the litter box I have had to stop what I was doing, get up, scoop the mess, tie the bag up and walk it all the way outside to keep from my office smelling absolutely awful. With three very large cats, this means multiple trips outside or multiple daily interruptions. The Litter Genie® Pail is a small discreet disposal system that you can use to quickly and discreetly lock away odors for up to two weeks at a time. Lock away litter odor in just 3 simple steps 1.) Scoop 2.) Open Lid 3.) Pull Handle.
Since the litter box and Litter Genie® Pail are in my office where I do multiple live webinars, I needed to disguise theLitter Genie® just a little bit so that it didn’t scream “hey there is cat poop in here” in the background of my videos. I was able to pick up everything I needed at Target to make a super simple slip cover that even held the Litter Genie® Wipes!
To make the Litter Genie® Pail Slip Cover I picked up a package of two pillow cases in a drawstring bag available in the bedding aisle at Target. To take it one step further I got a pretty little silk flower arrangement that matches the color scheme in my office so further disguise my little contraption. I needed to make something that hid what was inside, but that was easy enough to slip on and off as I needed to use it. The drawstring bag that held the pillowcases also made the perfect sized pocket to hold the Litter Genie® Wipes! How perfect is that! I simply slid one pillowcase over the Litter Genie® Pail and tacked the corners. Then I sewed on the little drawstring bag and added the flowers! Voila! Now when I need to fill my Litter Genie® Pail I simply slip the cover off, fill, use the wipes to clean up any mess, and then slide it right back on! No more litter box stinkies and a nice discreet background for my videos. It’s a total win-win.
I love each one of my enormous fur babies, but I have to admit, living with their litter box being literally just a few feet away on a daily basis has been a huge struggle over the past few years. With the Litter Genie® Cat Litter Disposal System helping to eliminate the litter box odor from my office, living with my fur babies has become much easier to handle. Whether you have one cat in your home, or multiple like we do, the Litter Genie® Cat Litter Disposal System from Target can help you contain the smell from the litter box.
