We do a LOT of laundry around here. With a family of four – three of which are girls – the amount of dirty laundry that accumulates is ridiculous. The Teen is in charge of the laundry and it is how she “pays” for her iPhone, but I spend a lot of time helping out since I am home during the day. Also, since I am the one that creates the most laundry (workout clothes – work clothes – lounge clothes – pajamas…. and that is just one day) I try to help her out.
And then there is the cost of detergent… holy smokes. Our “normal” box of detergent is nearly $30 and we buy a new one every couple of weeks. Because Midge has sensitive skin, I can not use the “cheap stuff” so we are stuck with the expensive stuff… or are we?!
My friend, Independent Scentsy Consultant Jessica Thompson recently told me she began making her own laundry detergent. Not only does she save a ton of money, but her clothes smell amazing – because of course, that is what Scentsy is known for! And because I can control what is in it, it wont hurt Midge’s skin… talk about a win-win.
DIY Landry Detergent with Scentsy Layers
- 1 cup washing soda
- 1 cup Borax
- 1 cup Oxyclean
- 1 cup grated bar soap
- 1 container Scentsy Layers Washer Whiffs
Mix all ingredients together well. Here is the best part… you only need 2 tablespoons per load! No more huge, heaping scoop full! You can use any scent of Scentsy Layers Washer Whiffs to make your own unique scent or to “layer” your favorite fragrance. (Ever passed by a woman that smelled so amazing you wanted to follow her around all day? That is the power of layering scents!)
