So I know I keep talking about my trip to LA – but honestly that was the most jam packed 72 hours I think I have ever experienced. When we arrived we were surprised with the news that we were going to get to see the new Need For Speed movie – in theaters today. Now… I had seen the trailer and previews already and for full disclosure… Mike and I both had said we would skip seeing that one.
Why? Because the title is the line from Top Gun and looked like another knock off of the Fast and Furious series! How could I enjoy this!? Top Gun is one of my number one favorite movies of all time, and Fast and Furious holds a place in our hearts that no other movie ever could. So – we had just chosen not to see it. Yes… we are movie snobs. I am ok with that.
However, as I crawled into the limo with 20something other bloggers to go and see it, I decided to just keep an open mind and not be a movie snob. It does after all have a really great cast, and who would complain about staring at Aaron Paul for a while – especially all hot and sweaty and covered in grease and… wait, where was I?
So we grabbed our popcorn and sat down – my friends Connie, Tiffany and I sitting in the “foot rest row” – and settled in. I grabbed my phone and turned the screen really low – I was so gonna be THAT GIRL and catch up on my emails and Facebook and stuff while this movie-I-dont-care-to-see played. Opening scene – Hello Aaron – one car race…. and I was hooked.
I absolutely loved it.
Not once did I look down at my phone again until it was over. Unlike a lot of movies that have a slow start and it really takes time to build the characters, Need For Speed throws you – quite literally – into the race from the very first scene. And – unlike what I took from the trailer, it is absolutely NOTHING like Fast and Furious. Well wait – hot guys and fast cars – yes, it has that in common, but that’s where you draw the line. Is it a little predictable? Yeah. But I enjoyed it anyway. The chemistry of the actors was terrific, it made me laugh, cry, and jump out of my seat (and nearly in to Connie’s lap) a few times. The dog in the truck – seriously!?!?!
I was really glad I went and saw it – and in fact Mike and I even went last night to a late night sneak preview to see it again – I liked it that much that I convinced him to go. He enjoyed it as well. And yes – I jumped at the dog in the truck again – even knowing it was coming LOL
Need For Speed hits theaters today and I highly recommend it. You can even take your kids as there is nothing inappropriate at all – very mild cursing, no sex, nothing gory or violent besides a few car crashes. Kudos to the directors for making a great film without the filth that is in so many other movies. The Teen is stoked that we are taking her to see it next week with some of her little girlfriends. And I get to see Aaron Paul again… talk about a win-win.
