A few weeks ago the family and I had the pleasure of meeting up with an amazing crew to film a short spot for an upcoming tv show on PBS all about vacationing in Pensacola Florida. Having both grown up here, Mike and I were more than happy to share some of our favorite tips and places to visit here at home. I was also excited that some other blogger friends of mine are going to be featured on the show too - like Kari from RaisedSouthern and Toni from ADailyDoseOfToni.
The show is called Family Travel with Colleen Kelly, and each show is focused around one great location to visit with you and your little ones. Past shows have includes places like Chicago, New Orleans, and San Antonio - so I was quite excited to see our little southern beach town make the cut for the show. I have always known Pensacola was one of the greatest places in the world to live and raise a family, but to be acknowledged by a show like Colleen's makes it just that much more awesome.
For our spot we got to go to the Portofino Boardwalk - which growing up was always the Quietwater Boardwalk. It was kind of a dreary afternoon when we filmed, but we all still had a great time. The Boardwalk has so many amazing memories for me - and is still somewhere that we go often either to catch some rays and have lunch or to have our infamous Bushwacker and listen to some of the greatest bands around. We got to do some shopping, some sightseeing, and of course Mike's favorite - have one of the amazing pizzas from Papa's Pizza - the best pizza on the beach!
There are so many great places to visit in Pensacola - some of which Colleen got to check out while she was here! I will be sure to let you know when the show will air so you can tune in. Until then you can check out her previous shows - but I warn you - when I watched them it made me want to vacation to every single one of them...

I would love to bring the family to your area to visit on vacation. Ever other word out of their mouths is "beach" when we talking about vacation. We have beaches here but they just aren't quite the same LOL

I don't know if I can even choose one favorite vacation spot- that's like trying to choose a favorite child. 🙂 But even though I can't think of one specifically, I do love to spend time at the beach. Not swimming or sunbathing, I prefer to walk the beach looking for that perfect seashell.

I have never been to Florida, much less Pensacola, but it looks like a great place to visit. Congrats on being on television! That must have been very exciting!

That looks like so much fun! It'd be hard to choose just one favorite vacation spot; there are so many! We do love Sanibel/Captiva, though.... the shells are amazing there, and the water is like bath water, so warm and relaxing.

What an exciting opportunity for your family! I'd love to vacation in FL!

Ooh that's a hard one, we love traveling....it would definitely be a tropical environment for my personal favorite vacation spot.

That's a toughie. We're going to Colorado soon, and I'm hoping it becomes a family favorite. 😀

Oh wow, it sounds like you guys had a great time filming! That's super cool!
Our absolute favorite vacation spot is back home in Maine! It doesn't matter if it's -5F or 95F, it's not only home (hopefully permanently again, soon!) but has some of the most beautiful bucolic coastline in the US.

That looks like so much fun! You have a great looking family.

We haven't done a ton of travelling. Still looking for our favorite place!

We typically go to San Diego for family vacations- it has the beach for me, Legoland for my son & the zoo for all of us. Being able to drive there helps, too. I would LOVE to go to Florida but I'm on the wrong coast- hopefully some day!

A couple of years ago, we decided to jump in the car and hit Florida. We ended up watching Fourth of July fireworks while sitting on Flagler beach. It was honestly a magical night.

How fun!
We've been to the Atlantic (Wrightsville Beach in NC) and it was so beautiful. I can't wait to get to Florida some day. Here in Ohio we just have lakes, but you can see the other side and that's kind of lame LOL

This is so cool you got featured in this show. We love watching PBS so I'll be looking for this episode! My all time favorite place to vacation is anyplace where my family is together having fun that's not here at home :).

I think Sanibel Island was probably our family's favorite vacation spot. It was idyllic!

I would have to say Lost Pines, Texas. Serene and scenic. Love it!

What a beautiful spot! I want to take my kids to a warm sand beach. I am on the Oregon coast, so our beaches are beautiful but cold and windy. The waves are breathtaking here.
Our family's favorite vacation spot would be around Crater Lake National Park, not far from us. Not only is the lake a breathtaking blue, the surrounding forrest land is great for skiing and hiking.

My state is nice during the summer months, but summer is too short... If my daughter wasn't so young I would consider migrating south for the winter to where you are...lol
