At the last Brandcation event I was introduced to Mommy Tonic – a “bubbly conversation card game” that takes Moms Night In to a whole new level of fun. At Brandcation, my Condo Mates and I sat around playing for hours – a fun way to relax and unwind after a busy day on the beach. It was a fun way to get to know each other better, share some laughs, and even get tips of handling some of the every day stresses that we have as Moms.
Last week I had the opportunity to introduce Mommy Tonic to my Bunco group. (I left out the part about them saying that Bunco is “so five minutes ago”… *cough*) Every month we get together to play Bunco, and it is honestly one thing I look forward to each and every month. It is just a few hours that we have scheduled to get together, drink some wine, eat some great food and enjoy som laughs while playing a totally mindless game of dice. This time after playing we sat around and enjoyed some laughs playing Mommy Tonic – and a few of us even relocated to my house for another glass of wine and to continue playing. It was a blast. Some of these ladies I have known for years, while others I have only known a few months. It was so neat to see how much we have in common – and how much we disagree on – while laughing hysterically.
The part I love most about Mommy Tonic is that it is REAL – no Stepford Moms stuff here. It talks about the good, the bad, and the ugly of motherhood and gives us a place to talk (..vent?) about it without judgement. Topics include everything from carpool to potty training to which personality traits you blame on the other side of the family…
There are four different versions of Mommy Tonic – Every Mom, Working Mom, New Mom, and Empty Nester. Each game has 65 cards with different conversation topics. You can play for as long or as short as you want – but every card will have you rolling on the floor with laughter. There are no winners or losers – but who wants that anyway? “All moms (and aunties) are winners in our book. Mommy Tonic is a collaborative, non-competitive, we-are-all-in-this-together activity. It is a happy game, like Peek-a-Boo. We’re good with that.”
