If you haven't heard of it yet, a new workout is sweeping the nation. POUND: Rockout. Workout. is absolutely the most fun you will ever have all while killing hundreds of calories.
I took a POUND class a couple months
Two more live classes later, I couldn't get enough and ordered the full kit and have been doing it almost daily ever since. I am
POUND is a full-body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The workout fuses cardio, Pilates, isometric movements, plyometrics
and Isometric poses into a 45-minute series.Burn between 400 and 900+ calories per hour, strengthen and sculpt infrequently used muscles, and drum your way to a leaner, slimmer physique – all while rocking out to your favorite music!
Through continual upper body motion using our lightly weighted drumsticks, called Ripstix™, you'll turn into a calorie-torching drummer, POUNDing off pounds as each song flies by.
Rock, rap, dubstep, pop and old school music fuse to create the
POUNDtrack series, which is hand-selected by music enthusiasts, drummers and POUND founder Kirsten Potenza.
I have honestly never had so much fun working out. Zumba has been my love for the last two years, but POUND brings in a whole 'nother element and brings out my inner rocker chick.
I get those RipStix in my hand and suddenly I am the lead drummer in my own rock band. Check it out:
I love POUND so much that I signed up to become an instructor in April. I am also a certified Zumba Instructor (ZIN) but I never had any intentions of actually teaching a Zumba class - I just loved it and wanted to learn more.
However with POUND I have already begun talking to my local gym about starting classes. I am doing POUND every day anyway at home - why not do it every day at the gym too!?
If there is a POUND class near you, I highly recommend you going and checking it out. The atmosphere is amazing - everyone is so nice and supportive - true rockstars.
If there isn't, check out the at-home kit - Pound Rockout Results System - which will give you that same incredible workout right in your living room.
The Jam Session is my favorite - it is just exactly what it sounds like - a total jam session. I
And if it turns out that you love it as much as I do, consider being an instructor at one of their POUND Fitness certification training around the country. Learn more about
I am so super excited about this I can't even put it into words. Finally, I think I have found the workout just for me.
POUND paired with Whole30 is my recipe for success in getting the banging, healthy body I deserve - all while enjoying every rockin minute of it. Check it all out at www.PoundFit.com
UPDATE:
I spent almost 2 years as a Proud POUNDPro in the Pensacola area, and while I have hung up my RipStix (at least for now), I still love this work out more than anything else I have ever done. Rock on, Rockstars.
Jill McCarthy says
Omg I want to take this soo bad. It looks soooo fun.
Jill says
Hi! Did you ever end up becoming an instructor? I'm thinking about doing it myself. How did it work out?
Moscato Mom says
I did!! I have been teaching for over a year now and I absolutely love it! The only complaint I have ever had was a bit of sticker shock on the cost of the RipStix, but other than that I really love it!
Justine says
Hi there! 🙂 I love being in Pound classes and am thinking about becoming a Pound instructor but I have not found any information online about how much instructors get paid teaching classes? I would love to teach a couple of classes a week as it is fun, and getting paid to do it! Is this a good part time job while being in graduate school full time? Does teaching Pound classes pay more than $11/hour minimum wage? Any advice or info would definitely help! 🙂
Moscato Mom says
Hey Justine! I think it really depends on the gym. I had one gym paying me $10 per class, one $15 per class, one was $25 per class and the other one was donation only - so sometimes it was $3 LOL The venue is who will pay you - not POUNDFit, so it really depends on where you teach as to how much you will make. 🙂 Hope this helps! I loved teaching - JUST hung up my RipStix last month - but it was an incredible 2 years!

Hi
I live i Gulf Breeze . I tried the Pound one time and i really like it. I would like to bevome Pound instructor so where i can learn to get certification Pound in Gulf Breeze or Pensacola?
Thanks
Moscato Mom says
Hey Anh! That's fantastic! I loved teaching for two years and just hung up my RipStix a month or so ago. Check out http://www.poundfit.com for all of the certifications available!
Heather says
I am curious why you no longer teach? I'm getting certified next month and wonder what I'm getting myself into. Lol
Moscato Mom says
I think it just ran its course for me. I taught no less than 4 classes a week for two solid years. As much as I loved it - I was (am?) exhausted. I did love it, and maybe if I did not already own THREE other businesses, I would have stayed on LOL It just got to be too much. 🙂
Anh vu says
Where did you get the certificate? Have ever they opened training pound instructor class in Pensacola?
Anh vu says
Where did you get your certification? I don't see rhey open training instructor class in Pensacola.
Moscato Mom says
It was either Montgomery or Birmingham Alabama. I drove up Friday and got a room - did the cert Saturday and (painfully LOL) drove home.
Anh vu says
If i want to become pound instructor do they requre any thing or experience?
Moscato Mom says
Hi! Nope, you learn everything you need to know in the certification class and then you subscribe to "The Label" which is your back office which has all of your tracks, techniques, announcements, resources, etc.
Rachael says
I have been considering this for over a year now. I was wondering if you had to have your own insurance when you taught or if it fell under the gym or venue that you were teaching at? and was it really worth it? It seems to be quite an investment.
Moscato Mom says
Hey Rachael! The gyms where I taught carried insurance, so I never did. I REALLY loved teaching, and I miss it sometimes. The RipStix are pretty pricey - I had sticker shock after my certification - but I did make the investment back and then some. I taught for over a year several classes a week and really loved it.
Sarah says
Hi! I know you've finished this, but I recently started POUND and love it! You said you had been taking it a few months before getting certified - do you feel that was enough experience before becoming certification? Also, would you recommend starting conversations with gyms before getting certified? Thanks!
Moscato Mom says
Hi! I actually only took 2-3 classes before I knew I wanted to get certified. The certification is VERY good - you learn a LOT in those 8 hours. Plus they have an extensive training library once you are a certified PoundPRO. I felt very prepared for my first class. And I did not speak to gyms until afterwards - not all of them were open to the idea, and I didn't want that to discourage me 🙂
Brooke Carrigan says
Hey there! I have several barre intructor certifications that required you to submit a demonstration video before giving you full certification. Is Pound like that as well? Thank you!
Moscato Mom says
Hi! No, we took an all-day class and at the end, we "teach" one of the songs we learned.
Pound Mami says
Hi thank you so much for making this page. Do you remember how much the membership to THE LABEL was? was it expensive?
Moscato Mom says
When I was active it was $19.99 a month 🙂
Audrey Caputo says
Hi, thinking about becoming a pound instructor. How did you go about getting gyms to offer pound/hire you? Did you purchase a class set of rip stix or did the gyms? About how much did it cost? Thank you!!
Moscato Mom says
Hi! I started with my gym where I had been a member for several years. I also spoke with a local church and though that was not paid, they did allow donations for the class. I purchased the Ripstix (be prepared for sticker shock lol) but it was because I wanted to be able to teach anywhere I wanted, so I still have them even now 🙂
Erica Carpenter says
Hi Lynsey, I recently just became a pound pro. I absolutley love it and can't wait to have my own class ?. I was wondering if you were interested in selling your ripstixs? If you could email me that would be awesome! Thank you,
Erica
Moscato Mom says
Sending you an email 🙂
Reba McDowell says
Hi!! I've loved reading this thread. I'm 95% sure I'm going to Pound Training on Sept.22. I'm so excited.
A couple of questions,
When you say you had to "teach" one song at the end of the day, did you feel fully prepared to do it??
Also, did you sell your ripsticks??
Thanks!!
Moscato Mom says
Hi! No we didn't actually teach at the end - but we felt prepared to if we had needed to. And yes I passed along my Stix to another Pro 🙂
Candace says
HI Lynsey, I will be taking the pound training next Sunday and I was wondering what to expect for the day? I have taken PiYo, Insanity and CDF training from BBLive and I was wondering if it was a similar day of training. Is there an exam etc.
Moscato Mom says
Hi! How exciting!! You will love it! I did a Zumba certification and I will say the POUND class made the Zumba cert seem like a cake walk LOL it was simple... it was just 7 hours of squats LOL There wasn't an "exam" really - but they do make sure you thoroughly know proper form and how to teach. I felt very confident leaving the class and went right in to teaching just about 2 weeks later 🙂
Anne says
Hi Lynsey. Our local studio did an intro class on Pound. It was fun but I got pain in my lower back afterwards. That shouldn't be the case right? my other classmates also felt the same. I wonder what's wrong with it.
Moscato Mom says
Hey Anne! So sorry that happened! I am not an expert but I am pretty sure lower back pain can happen if you are leaning too far forward. When you are just getting started I find it is better to keep the strikes off the ground to make sure your back stays flat and not rounded. You should be in a deep squat with a flat back to reach the ground - almost as if you have a string in the top of your head holding you up. If the soreness is from the floor position, that may the case as well - just a bit too rounded back. Try to keep your back as flat as possible with your hips kinda tucked under. (its a bit hard to explain - I hope this helps!) 🙂
Rachel says
I currently teach Zumba and my gym is interested in me getting licensed in pound. What is the monthly fee for "The Label" access? I'm already paying a ZIN fee, so I'm curious what I'd be getting into.
Moscato Mom says
Hi there! When I was active it was $19.99 🙂
Shelly says
Hi Lynsey! As far as the end of the training goes, does each “student” take turns getting up in front of the class to teach one song? Is it as nerve wracking as it sounds? LOL
Moscato Mom says
Haha so I PANICKED when I read that too - but we never did. I am not sure if we just ran out of time or what - but no... I did not have to get in front of the crowd during the training class. (thank goodness!)
Holly says
Hi! I’m currently interesting in getting certified to be a Pound Pro, and I was wondering if you are required to take any further classes like LevelUp after getting certified as a Pro, or if you can just remain a member of The Label and teach with your initial certification for years! Thank you!
Moscato Mom says
Hi there! I have hung up my RipStix but when I was active, there was no further training needed. 🙂
Olivia says
So I know that this thread is super old but i have my pound pro certification tomorrow! This is the only thread that i have found where someone has shared their experience and it's been super helpful to me. I do have a question though and i'm not sure if you'll get back to me in time but, Is there anything I should be aware of before heading into this certification? will i be required to teach in front of everyone? i've honestly only have done pound twice and now that it's sinking in tomorrow that i'm getting certified i feel completely unprepared and anxious. I'm so afraid that there will be a test and i won't pass. they didn't give me an itinerary yet just a reciept that i paid so the unknown is whats scary.
Moscato Mom says
Hey Olivia!! Congrats on becoming a PRO!!! I miss it SO MUCH some days (I took some time off for my daughters senior year)
Anyway, I can not speak for all of the certifications/pros/teachers but my class did not require us to teach the class anything. At least not individually. We learned an entire routine - which I believe at the end of the day was 7 songs. So like we learned song #1 by going through it a bunch of times - then learned song #2 - then we did song #1 together... then we learned song #3... and did songs 1, 2, & 3 together - etcetera. They did let us go up on the stage to teach if we WANTED to - but it was not required. By the end of the day you want to go up there - you are sore and tired and so in love with pound by then you get a little punch drunk I think LOL
DO NOT WORRY - you will do absolutely terrific. The class was so empowering - there were people there of ALL shapes and sizes and ages and fitness levels - and we all passed just fine. There is not a test (or at least there was not back then) but the class is very thorough and makes you feel really confident about teaching on your own.
Have a blast - eat a great breakfast - take great snacks and plenty of water, and you will ROCK it. <3
Cheryl says
I have brand new ripstix to sell. I didn’t end up teaching. 🙁
Lisa says
I've been considering this certification. Are you required to be a part of the label in order to teach? Can you do it for say a year and then just quit the membership and use all of the old choreography? Also, is there a recert process, or are you certified for life?
Moscato Mom says
So it has been a few years since I was active, but yes, back then it did require you to be active with The Label to teach (but that is a good thing - it was VERY helpful) and I think as long as you are with The Label you do not ever have to get re-certified. Since I "retired" and have been out of it for a while, I would have to go through the certification again I believe. I will say I LOVED LOVED LOVED teaching, and miss it a lot some days. I am very glad I did it.
