One of the things I love about "touristy" kind of towns are dinner shows like Dixie Stampede. When I was a teenager I remember going to Medieval Times with a bunch of friends from school. During Brandcation #2 - Global Getaway - we went to Arabian Nights and Sleuth's. So when we were told about Dixie Stampede - a themed dinner show in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee which features Dolly herself - we knew that was the perfect event to kick off the weekend at Blog Cabin.
Just minutes from Sevierville, Dollywood theme park, Dollywood's Splash Country, Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, visitors and locals agree that Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede Dinner and Show is a fun-filled, action-packed extravaganza that everyone should experience, perfect for families, friends and groups of any size! If that wasn't enough, in addition to our main event, your ticket purchase includes pre-show entertainment in our world famous Dixie Belle Saloon.
When we all arrived we walked through and saw all of the horses - the stars of the show. You could tell they were all pampered equines with cozy stalls, plenty of hay, and blankets to keep warm. We were greeted by Southern Belles with big hoop skirts with American Classic Bluegrass tunes coming from overhead.
We gathered for a quick picture (where are the count of three, half of us said YeHaww and half said Stampede - dont ask) and then headed off to the pre-show Mountain Rukus- three hysterical Bluegrass Musicians who had us laughing from the very first song. The finale - an example of how you can turn any song into a Bluegrass Tune was absolutely hysterical. I will never hear "Smoke On The Water" quite the same again. I loved that one of the guys was from Florida too. After the show we chatted for a few minutes - he was such a nice guy.
The show was of course fantastic and I could barely take my eyes off the arena to eat my food. Now I will tell you this... there are no utensils at Dixie Stampede. So for someone who is seriously squeamish about eating with her fingers - AND refuses to eat anything off of a bone - I struggled through dinner a bit. The flavors of everything were great though and I left feeling full even though I didnt finish my plate. To be honest the soup with biscuits was the most amazing part - I think I could have drank a gallon of that.
The Dixie Stampede was the perfect way to kick off our weekend in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and we all left with our little signature boot-cups happy as could be. I think my favorite part of the whole show was the "chicken races" where they got some children from the crowd to "race chickens" across the arena. If you have ever seen a chicken run - much less while being chased - you can imagine how hysterical this was. Sadly I was laughing too hard to snap a picture.
If you are in the Pigeon Forge area and are looking for a great kid friendly place to take the kids for dinner - Dixie Stampede is a great option! For more information you can visit Dixie Stampede’s website, Facebook, and Twitter.
