If you have been a MoscatoMom follower for long you may know that one of my absolute favorite things to do is gather my girlfriends for a night of wine and art at our local Painting With a Twist Studio. Even Mike has joined in a few times and we have beautiful pieces scattered around our home. It is so neat to walk into a room and see something you have created and are proud of. When I had the opportunity to check out a new Painting with a Twist Studio in Fort Walton Beach, I was excited to go check it out!
A pioneer in the Paint and Sip industry, Painting with a Twist, located at 255 Miracle Strip Parkway SE, Suite B8, is part of a fast-growing national franchise that provides guests a unique 'getaway' through art. A Painting with a Twist class includes friends, paint and BYOB wine. Led by local art instructors, guests paint on bare 16" by 20" canvases using paint and brushes provided by the studio. The artwork ranges from landscapes, abstracts and cityscapes, to creative renderings of animals, coastal scenes and florals. Friends gather for an evening of laughs, creativity and camaraderie as they create one-of-a-kind pieces of art to take home and often discover a newfound talent.
Fort Walton is one of my favorite cities located just west of Destin, Florida. Growing up here I have spent many many days and nights in Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa Island. The area is huge for tourism as are most of our cities around here, but I was excited that the locals will also have a new fun spot to enjoy. The way that it works is you check their Event Calendar to see what painting sessions are offered on which day. Then you simply book your reservation and BYOB! Painting with a Twist will take care of the rest! The studio is located in the Publix Shopping Center at the foot of the Brooks Bridge in Downtown Fort Walton Beach.
My friend Kayla and I took off to Destin after class a few weeks ago and had an absolute blast painting an abstract night time street scene. Now I will be the first person to tell you that EVERY time I go I think there is no way in the world I am going to do well with my painting, and every single time I have a blast and it turns out great. I have to turn off being an "OCDiva" - a word I learned from my first PWAT experience - and just relax and enjoy the process. Because seriously I can start freaking out right about here... which is why wine is recommended.
One thing that was super fun that we did at the new Fort Walton Beach Painting With a Twist was take a break and play "hot potato" with a wine cork! The Fort Walton Beach location is the largest studio in the area so we had plenty of room to walk around and mingle and play games while giving ourselves a breather and letting the paint dry between sips... err, I mean steps. All that space would also make the perfect place for your own private party - you could have a fun Bachelorette Party before heading out to the island, a great work party to have some fun with your colleagues, a rockin birthday bash - really any occasion you can think of!
Kayla and I had an absolute blast painting a very unique painting - something that took us both out of our comfort zones (1 abstract painting+ 2 OCD friends = many many MANY laughs) but we were both happy with the result. The owner Dave and the instructors were all very fun and helped us relax and have a good time.
If you are looking for something fun and unique to do - I highly recommend checking out Painting With a Twist. It is truly one of our favorite things to do! You can check out the Fort Walton Beach PWAT location website here, and be sure to also Like Them On Facebook for new announcements and paintings.

Should check into bringing this concept as a workshop to the Sarasota region. Tons of art students here.
