In January I set out with the goal to become a runner again and run in at least one race in 2012. I was a runner in high school and miss not only the physical benefits of running, but also the mental benefits. It was always my way to decompress, and I have gotten way... way away from that. I have gone back and forth with training - struggling through loss of motivation and killer shin splints.
When both Mike and Sami said they wanted to run as well, I ran to the computer and registered us for the very next 5k available - the Bushwacker 5k. Around the same time I received an email about the new Marika Venus Crew Neck Dry Wick Short Sleeve Tee and thought it would be a perfect time to really put it to the test - a 5k race, over a bridge, in 90* weather.
Marika is a wellness brand that strives to promote health, happiness and success of busy women everywhere. The company realizes that everyday life can bring the unexpected so Marika focuses on providing today's resilient women with comfortable, functional, beautiful activewear that carries them through various activities and occasions with polish, without breaking the bank.
First off - the race was amazing. We had a few bumps along the way, but I got totally hooked and have 4 more races I am running this year, and going to do the Double Bridge Run next year! It totally reminded me how much I love running. It felt amazing to be back in that crowd again and getting that "high" from completing a goal. I kick myself for ever getting out of it.
The Marika Venus Crew Neck Dry Wick Short Sleeve Tee did great in the run but the one thing I will tell you is that the size run small. I used their sizing chart and well...a medium fit my 13 year old daughter nicely. When I put it on I looked like I was trying out for Playboy. It worked out great though and Sami mentioned a few times how cool she felt even with it being over 90* with no shade. Even though she was sweating profusely (hey, we all were) I have to say by the end of the course her shirt looked an awful lot better than mine.
I am so excited to be running again and looking forward to hitting the pavement again for the Run for the Reef in October. And I plan to be wearing my own Marika Tee in that race!

I did a 5k run this summer and I was so proud, my confidence has soared, what a great boost! I can do anything I set my mind too. I was the one at school that would do anything to get out of sport too so this was a big thing for me to take on but I'll be back next year.
Next, I really want to try a firewalk!
Well done to you all for finishing x

I have thought about running a 5k, but haven't had the guts yet. Your post was inspiring.
