One of my favorite sayings has always been “The only thing constant is change.” That could not be more true right now. It seems like every news report, every press conference, every headline is more change.
A few weeks ago our Governor announced there would be no more in-classroom school for the rest of the school year. While my daughter rejoiced and flipped off her morning school alarm, I turned an alarm off of my phone as well… the alarm to go get in the car line to pick her up from school. As I turned it off I realized… I will never ever have to sit in a car line again.
Between my two children I have spent the last 15 solid years sitting in school pick up lines 9 months out of the year. It has been one of the blessings of being an entrepreneur and always working from home. Next year she will head to high school, and she is already excited about getting to ride the school bus with her neighborhood friends.
As I turned off that alarm and sat there staring at my phone screen, I realized it was one of the many things I had always taken for granted before COVID-19.
The way I took being able to go to a restaurant or sit in a movie theater for granted, I minimized – and even sometimes loathed – the fact that I was able to not only drop the girls off at school in the morning but be there to pick them up every afternoon. Turning off – and subsequently deleting – that alarm felt like the end of an era. It was bittersweet.
While my daughter was happy about not having to go back to class to finish out her 8th grade year, I wondered if she really understood the gravity of everything happening around her, and thought of how different life would be next school year.
While the 2019-2020 school year has not gone as we all had planned, and the 2020-2021 school year may be different than the years before, I do believe we will find a new normal soon, and with a new found respect for those things we took for granted.
While I have been very fortunate to have worked from home while my kids were in school all these years and not much has changed with the pandemic, I know there are a lot of Florida families who are facing great challenges and uncertainty for the future.
I have been really proud of how so many companies and organizations have been working together to help families get through these uncertain times. Florida Prepaid is among those organizations that have been working diligently on a plan to help alleviate some stress while helping to make it easier to plan for the future.
As we all prepare to find our new normal, one thing is for sure is that life will get back to being just as busy as it once was – and before we know it, kids will be heading to high school and then college. Having a plan for the future with the help of Florida Prepaid can give you peace of mind when that time comes.
