Have you heard of REFIT? I hadn't either until my friend Nikki - aka The Best Zumba Instructor Ever - said we would be switching some of our Zumba Classes to REFIT classes. The REFIT Revolution is similar to Zumba in that it is a high intensity dance workout, but with a Christian foundation and focus on community outreach. REFIT is truly a "total body workout" - body, mind, and soul.
REFIT® began as a local outreach with the desire to bridge an inner-city neighborhood with an upper-city church. This fitness “outreach” has since developed into a heart-pounding, body pumping pop-fitness class that embraces people from all walks of life. Take a look at the REFIT community and you’ll see people of varying shapes, sizes, experience levels and values. This is truly “one size fits all” fitness because each class is designed to meet the needs of each individual –whether that’s physical, emotional or spiritual.
Today we had our very first REFIT class here in Pensacola - in fact it is the first class ever in the state of Florida. It.Was.Awesome. I did not get every step right the first time, but caught on quickly - as did the entire class. There was also a lot of laughing going on - nothing beats getting a killer workout while having a blast with 60+ friends.
Cayce and I made the mistake of doing "Leg Day" with Fred Malpica an hour before the class. Since we had not seen Fred in a few weeks and today was our only day, we said we wanted to "do it big" and get a great workout... and oh how we did. I am pretty sure this is how we will look on Friday when I have to drive 10 hours to Cape Coral:
We were just starting to feel normal when we got to the REFIT Class. Thankfully they took a few minutes to take the picture so we got a break, but it wasnt long before the music started going and we were rocking out to some great Christian Rock songs.
An hour later we were sweaty, sore, and completely jazzed up. I am not sure what it is about these dance classes, but you can show up in a bad mood and leave on top of the world. It helps that the people are incredible. Everyone is so sweet and welcoming - and we can all laugh at ourselves and have a great time. There is none of that "gym-timidation" crap that you find in some classes and gyms. Everyone is just absolutely wonderful and supportive.
If you can Find a REFIT Class near you - I highly recommend it. My FitBit Force said I burned nearly 400 calories - and that is with not knowing half the steps and being easy because my legs were so sore. I can't wait to go again next week and do it all over again.
I am excited to add REFIT to my weekly workout routine - which right now includes Fred three times a week, Zumba two times a week, and now REFIT two times a week. That and I am almost 100% Eating Clean at home, which has been great. Yes, I have become that girl... and I absolutely love it.

Sounds like fun. Too bad I am so self conscious. The only group workout I've done since college (we use to do aerobics class 3x/week) is a prenatal water class....and the water basically hides you during the work out so I managed that quite well with my baby bump being hidden. 🙂

Hello! I was glad to find your post. I currently live in Baton Rouge and go to Refit classes 2-3 x per week and recently attended the pilot of Rev+Flow. We will be moving to Pensacola mid-April and Refit classes are high on my list to find.
We will be living near 9 Mile Road so looking for classes near there and hope to go 2-3 x per wk.
🙂

Hey Erin! Sorry for the delayed response. I live off Nine Mile! How cool! We have a bunch of ReFit instructors in town. My friend Nikki teaches at Olive Baptist Church which is just south of Nine Mile on University Parkway 🙂
