A few weeks ago I began seeing previews for The Nut Job – a new action packed 3D animated comedy that follows the travails of Surly (voiced by Will Arnett), a mischievous squirrel, and his rat friend Buddy, who plan a nut store heist of outrageous proportions and unwittingly find themselves embroiled in a much more complicated and hilarious adventure. The girls and I can not wait to see the movie that hits theaters on January 17th, 2014 but you can see the brand new trailer here:
Inspired by the new movie I decided to do a “Nut Job” of my own and create our own homemade trail mix for our upcoming roadtrip. See I love trail mix – but when I purchase it already together, inevitably there is one or two ingredients that I don’t like – and I have to pick through the bits to get to the ones I do like. Not only do I hate the idea of paying for stuff I am not going to eat, but its annoying to have to dig to find the good stuff… something you will see the characters of The Nut Job get equally as annoyed by.
I headed off to my favorite place – The Fresh Market – to buy my favorite trail mix components and mix up the best, tastiest, we-will-actually-eat-every-bit-of-this Trail Mix.
MoscatoMom’s Homemade Roadtrip Trail Mix
- Roasted cashews
- Roasted almonds
- Roasted Brazil Nuts
- Pine Nuts
- Raw Sunflower Seeds
- Raw Pumpkin Seeds
- Roasted Pecans
- Dried Diced Papaya
Everything in this I absolutely love – and the Craisins and Papaya give it a sweetness without having to add a ton of artificial sugars with chocolate or candy. You get that salty/sweet/savory thing all happening at one time – it’s perfect!
Be sure to check out The Nut Job movie in theaters January 17th! We will be there for sure! Check out The Nut Job website to see more fact about the movie, plus be sure to Like their Facebook Page and Follow them on Twitter for new sneak peeks as the release date approaches.
