This week I went in for my semi annual dental cleaning and xray. Now, most people I know absolutely hate going to the dentist - but I love it. That may be because I am happy to say that soon I will be celebrating my 35th year of no cavities. *tosses confetti*

If you know me, you know I carry a travel toothbrush and toothpaste at all times, and I am a bit neurotic about dental health. My friends have made fun of me for ducking in to bathrooms for a quick brush nearly every chance I get, but I do not mind. I remember my mother telling me as a young girl how important it was to take care of the enamel on your teeth as well as brushing and flossing regularly, so those were habits I established early on. When I saw that Colgate has a new line of products that focus on enamel health just like my Mom told me about years ago, I jumped at the opportunity to share.

Colgate Enamel Health line of products help replenish natural calcium for stronger, healthy enamel, provide protection against enamel erosion and their multi-protection formula helps relieve tooth sensitivity while fighting cavities and freshening breath. The Colgate Enamel Health line includes three different toothpastes - whitening, sensitivity relief, and multi protection - as well as two specialized tooth brushes for sensitive teeth - Colgate 360* and Colgate Sensitive with Built In Sensitivity Relief Pen.

My favorite product from the Colgate Enamel Health line is the Colgate® Sensitive Toothbrush+ Built In Sensitivity Relief Pen. Even though I am cavity free, I still battle tooth sensitivity big time. In fact, that is why I do not eat ice cream - it is actually painful for me. The Colgate® Sensitive Toothbrush+ Built In Sensitivity Relief Pen is not only healing keep my enamel healthy, but helping my sensitivities as well. The Sensitivity Relief Pen literally clicks in to the handle of the toothbrush for easy - and portable - use anywhere. I have replaced my little travel toothbrush in my purse with this one, thanks to that pen!

In addition to using great products like Colgate to keep your teeth healthy, here are some great tips for you and your entire family:

1. Watch your diet. This one is a no brainer, right? The things you put in to your mouth can either help or hurt your teeth. Acidic foods and drinks can lead to enamel erosion which weakens your teeth causing increased sensitivity issues as well as leads to cavities and other oral issues. Mom always warned me about eating lemons - explaining how quickly they can break down your enamel. Foods that are high in starch and sugars are also causes of enamel erosion.

2. Watch your medicines. Did you know that medicines you take can directly affect the health of your teeth? Over the counter medicines like asprin and antihistamines can lead to enamel erosion. Instead of reaching for a bottle, try a natural remedy instead.

3. Get regular checkups. I know you hate going to the dentist. But trust me, when it is just a matter of cleaning and polishing and no drilling is required, the dentist is a much nicer experience! Plus your dentist has great treatments that can help treat and prevent enamel erosion.

4. Make your dental health a top priority. No, you do not have to get as neurotic as I am about it, but your dental health should be a priority in your ever day routine. And - parents - teach your children the importance of dental care as well. I am so thankful that my mother told me early on how important tooth enamel was and helped me create good habits very young.

These tips plus daily use of products like Colgate Enamel Health can help your next trip to the dentist be a positive one.

Thanks for sharing this advice on having healthier teeth! I had no idea that medicine could actually harm your teeth. It sounds like I should make sure I brush my teeth after taking my liquid medication. The last thing I want is tooth damage that I could've avoided!
