In a few weeks one of the best events on the Gulf Coast will be happening in Sandestin – the 28th Annual Sandestin Wine Festival. The Sandestin Wine Festival at Baytowne Wharf kicks off April 10th with four full days of great food, great wine, and great activities for wine lovers and connoisseurs.
The Sandestin Wine Festival at Baytowne Wharf, affectionately referred to as “the Kentucky Derby of Wine Festivals,” draws thousands to the one-of-a-kind Sandestin vacation resort and the beautiful area of Destin, which TripAdvisor ranked No.3 among its “top 10 destinations on the rise” in the United States. The festival spans four days and is a combination of unique events that allows a wide range of experiences from attending wine dinners with celebrity chefs to taking part in wine tastings that showcase hundreds of wines.
In celebration of the upcoming festival, the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort invited me to experience an “at home wine festival in a box.” I knew it was the perfect excuse to get my girlfriends together for a long overdue Girls Night In fondue and wine tasting.
Now before I tell you about our evening, I have to tell you about the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort -voted the “Best” resort in Destin, Florida and the #1 resort on Florida’s beautiful Emerald Coast. The Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort is 2,400 acres of golf, tennis, water sports, marina, fitness center, spa, biking and walking trails and even their own pedestrian Village, with shopping, dining, events, and entertainment. And of course – some of the most beautiful beaches in the World. Can you imagine yourself on this beach? Because one of my lucky readers is going to get a free two night stay at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort!!
For my Girls Night In I wanted to try some new wines – and broaden my horizon past my beloved Moscato. Sadly, there are still places in the world that have not caught on to the amazingness that is my favorite vino, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to test out some other types of wine to give me a safe “plan b” should the need arise. I also had received a few bottles to try for review, and a couple others that were Klout Perks – so I just decided to pop all of the corks (literally – I nearly put a hole in the ceiling with one) and test them all. And with wine you can not top the ooey gooey awesomeness of cheese and chocolate fondue.
Since I had kicked off the evening with a total fail resulting in the throwing away of a huge pot of very bitter tasting cheese, I let Amy take over the fondue while I poured the wine. (hey, I know my strengths) She made probably the best batch ever on her first try – seriously the girl is like the Fondue Master of the Universe. Everyone brought stuff to dip – so we dove in with breads, apples, pretzels, and more. It wasn’t long until we needed a second batch of cheese… and more wine.
To be honest… I had so much fun catching up with friends that I did not take many pictures. We talked and laughed and sipped and dipped for hours – and it was absolutely perfect. It was a much needed time to just spend together – laughing until our cheeks hurt. After all, what better way to enjoy great wine than with great food and great friends, right? Even Mike joined in and the night went in to the morning… as all great nights should. I was shocked when we realized it was 1am – and we were still at the dining room table laughing and telling stories.
It was the perfect way to celebrate the upcoming #SandestinWineFestival and I am so super excited to be able to offer one my readers a free 2 night stay at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort so you can have your own relaxing evenings!! Take the kids and make it a family event, take your best friends for a weekend getaway, or take your sweetie for a romantic rendezvous for two. Mike and I plan to take a romantic getaway there this Summer after “conference season” is over for me and I can have a full weekend to do nothing but relax on the beach. Being local to this area I can tell you that there is not a more beautiful place to vacation anywhere on the Gulf Coast.
