Have You Tried Oil Pulling? GuruNanda Pulling Oil Review

Published: Jan 13, 2015 · Modified: Jun 13, 2021 · This post may contain affiliate links

A few months ago I noticed a bunch of my friends trying this whole oil pulling thing and I pretended not to notice (read: avoided like the plague) because the whole idea sounded awful to me. First - I have seriously weird consistency issues and a major gag reflex and well honestly... eww. However, as with most everything I have said I will "never do" - like Whole30, running, teaching a Zumba class (you get my point) - I was offered the opportunity to try GuruNanda Pulling Oil, and I took it as a sign to quit resisting and give it a shot. After all, my friends claim it is incredibly good for you and as someone who is borderline OCD about dental hygiene and ducks into bathrooms at random times to brush my teeth, I should get past my reservations and go at it with an open mind.

Oil pulling is a Unique Oral Detox methodology used since ancient times in Ayurvedic traditions since thousands of years in India. "GuruNanda' branded Pulling oil has been formulated by Vedic knowledge and Modern technology. Its Organic "Made in USA" and blends exact ratio of oils to balance the 3 Humors ( Dosha's). As per Dr Chaudhary a very famous neurologist on DR.OZ's show -The body has several mechanisms to "dump" toxic particles into the salivary glands. According to Ayurvedic tradition, oil pulling helps to increase the secretion of saliva and trap the toxins within the oil particles. By oil pulling, you can use the salivary glands in your mouth as a detoxifying organ. Instead of always putting junk in your mouth, you can use your mouth to pull out some of the junk and toxins out of your body. "GuruNanda" pulling oil combines the efforts of several professionals including a Ayurvedic Doctor, a MD ,E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year awardee , a Yoga teacher and a chemist. Reported Benefits of Oil Pulling are - Teeth Whitening, Dry Mouth Relief, Gum Health, Migraine Relief, Weight Control, Detox, Healthier gums, Prevents Bad Breath, Increased Energy, Clearer mind, Decreased Headaches,Clearer Sinuses, Alleviated Allergies, Better Sleep, Clearer Skin, Regulated Menstrual Cycles, Improved Lymphatic System, Improved PMS symptoms.

I received a bottle of GuruNanda Pulling Oil to try out. I had no idea what to expect - so I went in with an open mind. After all, its only one tablespoon that you swish for up to 20 minutes and then spit out and brush your teeth. Boom. Easy. I got this. Right?

I threw it back like a shooter and began swishing. First thing I noticed was that even though I thought it smelled a bit minty - there was really no flavor. Which was great because no flavor is SO much better than yucky flavor. So it was pretty easy to hang in there and just swish for the entire time. Two things I have to tell you though - one, I got incredibly bored walking around my kitchen humming tunes while watching the clock barely move, and two - my mouth got SORE! I may have been a little over zealous in my swishing - it says "gently" but I pretty much went at it. Kind of like taking off sprinting at the start of a marathon... not your best strategy. However, finally, 20 minutes later I was able to spit it out, and brush my teeth (glorious) and I do have to admit - my teeth feel cleaner.

My first experience with #oilpulling - wasn't as bad as I thought. I #GuruNanda pulling oil is pretty awesome. Didn't taste bad or get all funky in my mouth at all. It DOES however make funny sounds - and I was super happy when the 20 minutes was up lol

I am going to do this once a day for a few weeks and see how much it improves how I feel and my teeth. I have crazy sensitive teeth and I am really hoping this helps. You can pick up your own bottle of GuruNanda Pulling oil from Amazon or from the GuruNanda website.

Have you ever tried Oil Pulling?

Disclosure: I received a bottle of GuruNanda for the purpose of this review, no other compensation was offered. All opinions are 100% my own.

Did you continue with it? I tried oil pulling exactly twice, with just coconut oil. I'm thinking about giving it another try.

I have - but not as consistently as I should. 🙂
